RAMP Principals Speak at Home Office Oral Questions

RAMP Principals Tony Vaughan KC MP, David Simmonds MP, and Chris Murray MP spoke at Home Office Oral Questions this week.

Tony Vaughan KC MP asked the Home Secretary what steps are being taken to expand community sponsorship schemes to support refugees arriving through safe and legal routes.

The Home Secretary responded that the government is developing safe and legal routes for students, workers, and community sponsorship in collaboration with community organisations and international partners, with the student scheme due to launch later this year.

David Simmonds MP highlighted asylum accommodation pressures in his constituency and asked how housing needs should be balanced between existing residents and newly arrived asylum seekers.

In response, the Minister for Border Security and Asylum, Alex Norris, noted that while demand remains high, recent figures show a decline, with further reductions expected.

Chris Murray MP noted an increase in the removal of foreign national offenders and highlighted reinvigorating neighbourhood policing as key to addressing crime in communities.

In her response, the Home Secretary said that removals of foreign national offenders have increased significantly, with around 60,000 removals since the government took office, and are expected to continue rising.
