RAMP Principal Mayor Coppard Hosts Event Celebrating Unity Across South Yorkshire
On 10th October, RAMP Principal Mayor of South Yorkshire, Oliver Coppard hosted the We Are South Yorkshire event in Sheffield’s Peace Gardens. The event brought together representatives from faith groups and community organisations for a public demonstration of unity, compassion, and shared values across the region following the attack in Manchester the previous week.
The Mayor led an afternoon of speeches and reflections from faith leaders, community representatives, students, and civic figures, including the Lord Mayor of Sheffield, Councillor Safiya Saeed; Imam Sheikh Mohammad Ismail DL; Rabbi Golomb; and Fatima Khan Shah of the Sheffield Race Equality Partnership.
The event was attended by at least 120 people, with people passing through the square throughout, with members of the audience carrying Yorkshire white roses and placards symbolising unity.
The Mayor closed the event with a reflection on South Yorkshire’s values of compassion, connection, and community.
