Tony Vaughan KC MP Speaks at Westminster Hall Debate on UK Participation in the Council of Europe and the European Convention on Human Rights

There was a Westminster Hall Debate yesterday evening on UK participation in the Council of Europe and the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) led by Cat Eccles MP (Lab).

RAMP Principal Tony Vaughan KC MP (Lab) took part. In his speech he outlined that the ECHR has contributed to various legal protections in the UK, including cases involving LGBTQ+ rights, child welfare, workers’ rights, and patient safeguards. He stated that participation in the ECHR supports international cooperation on border management and security, suggesting that withdrawal could reduce the UK’s ability to address shared challenges effectively.
