Olivia Blake Responds to Asylum Policy Announcement on Politics Live

Olivia Blake MP spoke on Politics Live in response to the Home Secretary’s asylum policy announcement, which proposed making refugee status temporary and subject to review every 30 months, extending the route to settlement from five to 20 years, and introducing new work and study routes.

She highlighted concerns about the potential impact of the changes on integration, noting that leaving refugees in prolonged uncertainty could undermine their ability to integrate into local communities.

She also stated that the proposals could make life more difficult for people already in the UK and may increase the number of undocumented individuals, arguing that greater emphasis should instead be placed on expanding safe and legal routes
