Baroness Lister Seeks Clarity on Support for Migrant Domestic Abuse Survivors
RAMP Associate Baroness Lister spoke at a Lords Chamber Debate on the Government's Violence Against Women and Girls Policy following a question by Baroness Hazarika (Lab) on plans to implement the Strategy published in December.
Baroness Lister welcomed the introduction of a firewall between police and immigration enforcement to protect migrant domestic abuse survivors. However, she highlighted that asking the police to get a survivor’s permission before sharing information might not fully protect people who do not speak much English or who feel too afraid to say no. She asked what training police officers will receive to make sure survivors understand their rights and feel safe using this protection.
