OBJECTIVES
Warning:this page is under upgrading!
The overall aims of RAMP 2001 are a better understanding and an assessment concerning possible biological effects and hazards due to exposure of brain and nerve cells to high frequency electromagnetic fields radiated by global systems for mobile communication such as GSM 900 MHz and GSM 1800 MHz, as well as to more recent UMTS system. Since thermal effects are well known and established, this project is particularly concerned with effects arising from non-thermal interaction mechanisms, possibly due to low intensity electromagnetic field. A major objective is to achieve a very comprehensive "data fusion" of the experimental results obtained from in vivo (on animals) and in vitro experiments, with theoretical modeling at molecular level and computer simulations. Another objective is to define well reproducible "in vivo" and "in vitro" tests of the vulnerability of nervous system cells to radio frequency exposure.
The project is founded by the european commission (FPV), and scientifically monitored by EU Scientific Officer Mrs. Minna Wilkky. The total cost is 1.814.348 euro including a contribuition of 1.108.500 euro from the Commission. The Project, according to the original contract, started on January 1st, 2002 and should finish on December 31st, 2004. However, due to a number of problems, the Commission agreed to posticipate the project ending to September 30, 2005.
PROJECT MANAGEMENT
The overall management activity in the project is allocated under the responsibility of the Project Coordinator.
The project is supervised by a Steering Committee, which has full executive responsibility for the project. It is composed by the Project Coordinator and the other four responsible scientists (principal investigators) of the partner groups.
The Project Coordinator will receive assistance in his activities by the Project Assistant and the Deputy project assistant.
The Financial Assistant is in charge of guaranteeing a high financial monitoring and control throughout the project life.
The Quality Assessment and Assurance Committee has been established at the beginning of the project.
The Workpackage Leaders (WLs) are responsible for the work carried out in their Workpackages and have to ensure the timely submission of Workpackage deliverables. The WLs report directly to the Project Coordinator.
